One of the biggest draws to the Smoky Mountains is the opportunity to take in some of the best views that nature has to offer. Luckily, there are multiple different activities to do while you are visiting to make the most out of the natural landscape of the mountains. Here are 4 of the best things to do in the Smoky Mountains with the best views:
1. Go on a Hiking Adventure
Hiking is not only great for exercising, but there are many trails in the Smoky Mountains that will reward you with breathtaking views. Whether you want to see a backdrop of the mountains, waterfalls, wildlife, or a mixture of it all, there is a hike available to fit what you are looking for. The other good thing about hiking in the Smokies is there are hikes for all different skill levels. Whether you are an experienced hiker or have never been on a hike, there are ways for you to experience the magnificent scenery of the Smoky Mountains. If you are just starting out, the hike to Andrews Bald is good for beginners. The trail is only 1.7 miles, but still encompasses great views. Also, if you need a break at the end, there is an open grassy meadow to sit down and enjoy a picnic. If you are a more experienced hiker, the hike to Mount LeConte is worth seeing because of the indescribable mountain views you will encounter, but it is a little more difficult. Whichever trail you choose to take, hiking is the perfect activity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Smokies.
2. Experience Whitewater Rafting
One of the best things to do in the Smoky Mountains to experience nature is take a trip down the river on a rafting experience. With Smoky Mountain Outdoors Rafting, you can have a fun time with your friends and family while also enjoying views of the Smokies. Just like with hiking, you can choose a ride based on how adventurous you are feeling. Smoky Mountain Outdoors offers three different rafting options with a lower river ride, an upper level ride and the extreme upper river rafting. If you are riding with younger children or just want to enjoy a relaxing trip down the river, the lower river rafting is for you. However, if you want to be more adventurous, take on class 3 and 4 rapids on an exciting 6.5 mile ride with the upper river experience. If you want the ultimate thrill ride, go to the max with the extreme upper river rafting. This ride takes you on the upper portion of the Pigeon River with just three rafters and the guide. You will experience the big waves and fast speeds that rafting offers! However, no matter which trip you take, there is a trained guide to make sure you make it to the bottom safely.
3. Enjoy a Picnic
Throughout the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there are many picnic areas where you can spend the afternoon enjoying time with your family and the mountain scenery. The picnic sites are set up with a raised grill and a picnic table in case you want to cook something when you get to the picnic area. There are also certain picnic areas, including Greenbrier and Metcalf Bottoms, that have picnic pavilions to rent if you are planning a large group gathering. What better way to spend the day than by enjoying a picnic with your friends and family encompassed by the nature of the Smoky Mountains!
4. Take a Drive through Cades Cove
One of the best ways to take in the views of the Smoky Mountains in a peaceful manner is to drive your car through Cades Cove. On the 11-mile loop, you will be able to experience some of the best sights of the mountains while also having the possibility of seeing some wildlife that calls the area home. When you drive through Cades Cove, you will likely encounter some white-tailed deer. But the real reward is getting to see one of the black bears that live up in the hills of the Smokies. There are multiple different pull off spots where you can enjoy the scenery and wildlife. In addition to seeing amazing views of the mountains and wildlife, there are also some historic buildings along the way for you to stop and learn some of the early history of the area.
